Tiger Painting – Beginning to Refine the Painting

With the underpainting now fully completed I can now begin to refine the tiger a little – bear in mind that this is still very much an underpainting and the real details haven’t been painted yet in any area.

As you all know my technique is really an improvement on each layer, as I gradually sneak up on the completion., It’s really an improvement on each previous layers mistakes 🙂

Wildlife Art – It Begins! Latest Painting Wildebeest Crossing.

It’s taken me a while to gather and prepare all the reference material for this painting. But I am finally just about ready to cut the canvas to size and start laying out the drawing ready for the paint. To be honest I think the painting part is actually going to be the easiest part of the whole thing.

With so many animals – zebra, wildebeest and of course Crocs it’s going to be a complicated one to compose, plus it’s going to have to be real big to fit them all in! ha…..

I hope to have some updates and photos real soon so please keep dropping by.

New Elephant Painting – On The Easel (WIP)

I’ve been working on a great elephant painting the past couple of weeks. It’s from a scene I witnessed in Botswana on the outskirts of the Okavango.

The painting shows the soil in Moremi (Botswana) at the end of the dry season, the remnants of grasses are only existing as they are quite close to the river, but even then, with temperatures in the shade reaching 40’C + it really is extremely dry, and just 100 yards from the river virtually no vegetation survives. The seeds however, are remaining dormant, waiting for the 1st rains to come, before miraculously turning Moremi green.

It’s amazing how elephants, as huge as they are, survive this hostile environment, the trees however sometimes get completely devestated as the dryseason continues and they are taken to pieces by very hungry elephants.

Hope you enjoy the following step by steps – Painting now complete and SOLD.
