I cant believe it has been 10 years + since I wrote “Painting Wildlife in Oils” WOW doesn’t time go by fast.
It is no wonder that so many people were emailing me asking when I would come out with a follow up book aimed more towards the Novice / Advanced wildlife artist.
Well I have been working VERY hard gathering together the best demos and clearest instructions I possibly could for you all and I am excited to say that the NEW eBook is going to be released in the next couple of days 🙂

Well with the acrylic underpainting, complete and dry I am now gradually going over the underpainting with the 1st coat of oils. Here you can see that I have applied oil paints to the eye areas and also the blue side of the fur.
Another benefit of a quick acrylic underpainting is that you require less layers of the oil to give a nice opaque colour.

I’ve had this project in my mind for a few months now, and finally after ages scanning, selecting images etc it has finally come to fruition!
Amateur Artists in Particular can Find it hard to source Free to use (Royalty Free) Photos for their projects.
So I came up with the idea of putting 100 of my own photos on a CD so others could paint from them WITHOUT the expense of going to Africa and other places around the world!

Well I’m at the stage with this painting where I am just tweaking now – a glaze here and there, spending more time standing back and looking at it, than actually painting. Hope you have enjoyed the journey – seeing how I develop a commission piece.
All continue to twek then upload a new photo under good lighting so you get a better feel for him – love to hear anyones thoughts on him 🙂

The light in this piece is really what will make the painting, it’s so dramatic and that is what I concentrated on in the stage below. Now I’m starting to work on some basic details and will continue to add them to the left side of the canvas before working over the whole painting again.
